On Monday 19 April, local business leaders took part in a virtual CEO Sleepout event to raise vital funds to tackle homelessness in Milton Keynes.
So far, an incredible £23,300 has been raised – no mean feat given the challenging climate we’re facing. The donations will be split between frontline charities working hard to support people affected by homelessness and poverty in the city; YMCA Milton Keynes, The MK Dons SET and CEO Sleepout UK.
In previous years, the event was held at the MK Dons Stadium but, due to the pandemic, this year fundraisers gave up their beds for one night and slept in their gardens.
Throughout the evening all fundraisers came together online so they could find out more about the three charities they were supporting, and also heard from Dan Atkins of Buses4Homeless, which re-engages people experiencing homelessness back into the community.
On Monday night our CEO Simon Green was joined by his son Henry and dog Hugo. Speaking of the event Simon said, “Once again the local community demonstrated passion and commitment to ending homelessness in Milton Keynes. We’re incredibly thankful to the local business leaders who took part in the event for shining a light on this urgent issue. Everyone deserves to have a safe place to stay, and we will continue to work with other organisations and the wider community to bring an end to homelessness in Milton Keynes.”
There is still time to support the cause. If you’d like to donate you can do so here: bit.ly/3bhZ2K2.
On behalf of everyone at YMCA Milton Keynes, we would like to say a huge thank you once again to those who took part in the event and everyone who donated in support.
