This month we caught up with Jean Gowin from CityFibre, one of our brilliant Corporate Partners. Read on to find out why the organisation chose to support YMCA MK, and what Jean would take to a dessert island!

Q. Tell us an interesting fact about City Fibre.

A. CityFibre has recruited over 1,000 new employees during the pandemic – some of whom have yet to meet all their teammates in person!

Q. What is the best part of your role?

A. The best part of my role is heading up the relationship CityFibre has with the city – working with everyone in Milton Keynes (MK): informing people about the full fibre build, engaging with residents and businesses, taking part in local events, and of course, supporting MK communities and charities – every day is different, and I get to meet and work with amazing people!

Q. Why did you get involved with YMCA MK?

A. I’ve always loved the work done by YMCA MK, and I’m passionate about helping others, ensuring people have the opportunity to reach their full potential. With the new campus developed right next door to the CityFibre office, it was a great opportunity to get further involved personally and also through the company, both as a corporate supporter and on a more practical level. We recently hosted a CityFibre job/recruitment pop up for the residents and of course we visit the fabulous HomeGround café on the ground floor of the campus!

Q. What three things would you take to a desert island?

A. Factor 50 sunscreen (ouch, I burn so quickly), Bovril (yes, I know that’s strange but it’s a favourite) and a notepad and pen (as I do love a list and a plan). Oops, is that four?
